Double whammy

Believe it or not, those pesky mosquitoes could be hurting your heart. Researchers from the Clinical Research and Academics Divisi on of Fortis Healthcare Ltd, New Delhi, have found that dengue fever, spread by mosquitoes, also causes electrocardiograph (ECG) and echocardiograph (ECHO) changes in people with no prior heart conditions. In patients with heart disease, the study found that using blood thinners could be especially dangerous once they had contracte d dengue. So, apart from blood tests, heart patients who contract dengue are advise d to get an ECG and ECHO if they experience chest disc omfort and shortness of breath.
